Jael E. MakagonAssociate Phone: (808) 524-1800 Jael Makagon's practice areas include commercial litigation and labor and employment law. He has been part of the firm's legal teams in such recent matters as a successful lawsuit to help public school teachers maintain the standard of healthcare benefits guaranteed by Hawai`i's Constitution, obtaining judgment limiting a hospital's liability for the actions of independent contractor physicians, and representing a large hotel management company in a complex contract dispute. He also assists employers in litigation involving employees' allegations of discrimination on the basis of race and work injuries. In addition to practicing law, Mr. Makagon is an adjunct professor at the University of Hawai`i Richardson School of Law, where he currently teaches a legal writing course for first-year law students. To teach the course, which focuses on drafting appellate briefs, Mr. Makagon draws on his experience as a Hawai`i Supreme Court law clerk.
