Malia Kakos has more than 11 years of legal experience as a career law clerk for Judge David Alan Ezra, Chief Judge Emeritus of the United States District Court for the District of Hawai`i, and as a practicing attorney in Hawai`i. At AHFI, Kakos focuses on labor and employment law, as well as commercial litigation.

Kakos represents employers in all aspects of labor and employment law, including proceedings before private arbitrators relating to Union grievances, defending discrimination and retaliation claims in the State and Federal courts in Hawai`i, providing training on sexual harassment or violence in the workplace, drafting employment handbooks and giving advice on terminations and disability accommodations or leave.

Kakos has also had experience representing companies in general corporate work, such as series financings, public offerings and mergers and acquisitions. In addition, her years in Judge Ezra's court gave her valuable experience with Federal rules, Federal and State law and the inner workings of the Federal court system in the Ninth Circuit, valuable knowledge in determining litigation strategy.
